Madeira Pelagic at Birdwatch Magazine

birdwatch-magazine-madeira-island-pelagicIn last May, Dave MacAdams, Killian Mullarney and René Pop, very experienced birders and photographers, had a week of adventure with Birds &  Company in a Pelagic to explore the north sea of  Madeira Island. This was an opportunity to our team  to work with excellent birders and learn with their  experience about seabirds and pelagic strategies.

The report of this expedition was published in the  November 2012 edition of Birdwatch Magazine. The  main goal of the pelagic trips was achieved with 13 Madeira’s/Zino’s Petrel records. In this week other species were recorded, such as Cory’s and Manx Shearwaters, Bulwer’s Petrel, Sooty Shearwater, European and Leach’s Storm  Petrel. Beside seabirds, dolphins and turtles  accompanied us throughout almost all trips.

A visit to Madeira’s/Zino’s Petrel breeding ground and Centro da Freira da Madeira were an experience that we couldn’t forget to our guests. We thank the Madeira Natural Park (Serviço Parque Natural da  Madeira) for their support in this visit.

Birds & Company also wants to thank to Casa da Ribeira Seca for the excellent accommodation of their guest and for the total
support of Turtle Diving Center in Porto Moniz providing their space and boat.
