A small gamebird, with brown upperparts dark marks. The underparts are paler and mottled on flanks. The male has black throat while in the female is pale white. This bird is rarely seen it is more common to hear their distinctive calls.
A sound similar to a “whit-whit'tit."
Common quail is a terrestrial species witch habitat is in general grasslands. They construct their nests on the ground mainly in grass areas. They lay between 8 and 13 eggs of pure white per clutch. Their diet includes seeds, cereal, small insects and their larvae.
In the archipelago of Madeira breeds in Madeira and Porto Santo Island. Recently it is also confirmed breeding on Desertas islands. The confisa subspecies is restricted to the archipelagos of Madeira and Canaries.
That a quail with no more than two months old have been record in the northern Africa.
